Book Description:

When the boss is away, the cats will play.

When Robin heads to North Carolina with his boss to help design and build a new conference center, he has a bunch of surprises in store for him. The building site is in the middle of nowhere, his boss is being weirder than usual, and he meets not one, but two of the hottest men he’s ever seen in his life. If he can just get his boss Terry to leave him alone with them, Robin knows Casey and Travis could rock his world.

Casey and Travis might play, but they’ve never thought of mating with a third man. Their immediate need for Robin is something they don’t question, though. What they do want to know is how Robin can possibly be unaware he’s a cat shifter. Can they help Robin find the other half of himself and convince him he’s what’s missing in their relationship at the same time?

Hey y’all! I’m BA Tortuga, resident redneck and lover of all things spooky.

What? It’s true.

I am a Halloween JUNKIE. Thank God I married a woman who’s as into it as I am.

We decorate the yard -- lights and pumpkins, skeletons and witches, spider webs and spooky, goofy signs. Yes, we’re that house.

We spend the entire month of October drowning in every available scary movie known to man -- we watch the 31 days of Halloween, AMCs horror fest, everything from Poltergeist to the Gingerdead Man (if you haven't seen this one, OMG -- run. Go watch. You will pee yourself laughing).

Then there’s the actual Halloween night part. See, we live in an extremely impoverished part of the country, so a house that has ‘the good candy’ is a thing to tell folks about. Our first year here, we had 10 trick or treaters. The next? 50.

Last year? They were bringing kids from the reservations by the truckloads. We had over 200 little ones and we had a BLAST! FYI, in this part of the world, Almond Joys are the candy bar of choice. (In Texas it was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, go figure).

We (my wife, my mom and me) sit on the front porch in our rockers, wearing our witch hats, and passing out candy. People come in for a hug, for a cup of hot cider (from the Crockpot plugged in on the porch -- did y’all know there are places where it’s COLD at Halloween? I grew up where Halloween is still in the 90s, temperature wise and this has been a learning curve!), and to see the weird dolls that cover the porch.

Then, once the kids have slowed to a trickle, we have the same thing every year.

Cornbread, chili, and chocolate chip spider cookies.

I’ve been making the same meal for...lord...29 years now?

Now, I won’t share my chili recipe, because I haven’t even given it to my best friend from high school, and my cornbread and cookies are gluten free out of necessity these days (Celiacs is a bitch, my friends), but I’ll share the neat link to show how to do the spider cookies.

Now, if y’all are in the Sandia area at Halloween, please stop by and get your cider and your Almond Joy. If you ask nice, I’ll even give you a bowl of chili. Just don’t expect the recipe.

Some things I get scary about. ;-)

Much love, y’all.

Spicy as ever, this author gives us a new romance that turns the pages and brings a nice menage element to the shifter genre.

Initiation Excerpt

No sooner had they scooted into the back seat and slammed the taxi door than her grandmother turned to her with a knowing look. “Come into your powers, have you?”
“Nana, please.” She angled her head to the cab driver, hoping to convey her need for privacy. A snort answered her pleas as they both settled into the tobacco-smoke-tainted back seat. Wasn’t there supposed to be some sort of smoking ban in public places? Then again, it might have been her. Turning her head, she sniffed the shoulder of her uniform shirt again. Still smelled like wood smoke, pine trees, and that disgusting fish she’d eaten. How could that be?
Her grandmother leaned over and sniffed her clothes, too. A thoughtful look crossed her face as she pointed to Leah’s ankles, which were caked with mud and leaves. Where had that come from and why hadn’t the principal noticed? Nana said nothing, honoring Leah’s desire not to talk publicly.
Looking out the cab window, Leah noted the brown grass and the withered leaves on the trees. The drought hadn’t dealt well with the area. It took rain usually to make mud. She picked a small green leaf from her mud-encrusted legs. Twirling it between two fingers, she knew it hadn’t come from here.
Where would she have encountered mud and green leaves in the few short steps from her father’s sedan to the school doors? The flight through the woods had garnered the mud and leaves. It had been real, not a vision or daydream. If her run through the woods with Sabina, Henry, and Margaret had happened, then that meant the man in the throne-like chair existed. Remembering the man’s crazed eyes and hate-filled voice caused her to shiver. How could she stop this?

This book is perfect for anyone who enjoys a witchy read. A young girl has to decide if the world of magic is for her. A bewitching coming of age tale filled with mystery.

Grandmother Always Knows by Rayna Noire

Luna rattled the ice in her cocktail while she squinted at the wall clock. The long hand had only made it to the four. Seriously, only twenty minutes had passed. The Halloween party was the brainchild of her employer’s wife.
As a witch, she wasn’t into Halloween parties with the cheesy costumes and heavy drinking. Nope, she spent the season in contemplation or possibly divination. When the veil between the two worlds was the thinnest, her deceased grandmother spoke to her. She could have sworn Nana told her she’d meet her soul mate soon. Her granny also warned her that things weren’t as they seemed.
Calvin from HR weaved around the people to reach her. Normally, she liked the man, but his drunken leer announced his current state.
“Hey Luna, why don’t the two of us go outside and look at the stars?”
Her immediate response was to brush him off, but despite his soaked state he might remember her rudeness. “It won’t work. Too much light pollution to see anything.”
The man blinked owlishly at her, making her wonder if he understood anything she had said. Luna put up a hand. “Oh, it’s my girlfriend. I need to talk to her. Pardon.” She strolled away, questioning if Calvin could be her soul mate. She shook her head. Couldn’t be.
There were several unfamiliar faces in the crowded great room. At least no one was wearing costumes. She should be grateful for that since people dressing up as witches irritated her. Not sure if evil witch or sexy witch annoyed her more, since both were stereotypes.
A gorgeous man nodded at her and smiled. Well, well, the night suddenly looked promising. The people parted enough to reveal more of the tall, handsome…. priest. The former promising man was the final straw. Time to go home and see if she could reach Nana since she must have misunderstood the message. It could have been what she had wanted to hear as opposed to what she needed to hear.
Luna pivoted and made a beeline for the door.
“Stop, wait.”
She threw a backward glance over her shoulder, noticing the priest heading her way. She blinked. Obviously, the clergy was more aggressive these days. He was going to either ask her when she last attended mass or ask if she had any sins to confess.
Luna managed to slip outside where she could see her namesake, the moon. The door slammed, revealing the priest had followed her.
“Hey,” she held up her hands, “Not interested. Witch here.” Usually, that line scared most away, except the very drunk.
An amused expression crossed the man’s face as he strolled closer. “Glad to hear it. I’m not a priest.” He held out his hand. A silver pentacle ring on his pinkie glimmered in the dim light.
Luna took his hand. He wrapped his fingers around her palm and held on. An energy flowed between them, unlike anything she’d ever experienced before. She knew this man; at least her soul recognized him. “That’s a relief.”
He lifted an eyebrow. “My name’s Rowan and yours is Luna.”
“How did you know?” Perhaps he could read minds.
“Ah, well, I think my brother, your boss, set us up. He knew I hadn’t much luck finding a nice Pagan woman.”
“The costume?”
Rowan laughed, then winked. “My brother can be a bit of a practical joker, but he has a good heart.”
Grandmother knew all along.

About the Author:

Rayna Noire is an author and a historian. The desire to uncover the truth behind the original fear of witches led her to the surprising discovery that people believed in magick in some form up to 150 years ago. A world that believed the impossible could happen and often did must have been amazing. With this in mind, Ms. Noire taps into this dimension, shapes it into stories about Pagan families who really aren’t that different from most people. They do go on the occasional adventures and magick happens.

Ten Things I Love About Halloween by M.A. Church

1. Autumn colors are simply beautiful. The vibrant yellows, reds, and oranges add to the ambience of the season. When the leaves start to turn, that signifies autumn is here.

2. There are always scary movies on in October. Okay, so I’m not a big horror fan, but I do like the old black and white ones from long ago. It’s a good excuse to snuggle with a loved one.

3. Even down here in the South, when October arrives there’s this nip in the air. It brings to mind big piles of leaves, wood fires, and cooler temps. Some of my favorite memories are of Mom raking huge piles of leaves. I couldn’t wait to dive-bomb them.

4. It’s the perfect excuse to dress up. Oh man, is there anything better than stalking the aisles of a store looking for a costume? I think it’s the whole ‘being somebody else’ mentality. Want to be a vampire? Then be a vampire! Want to be a werewolf? Get ready to howl at the moon then. LOL

5. I freely admit part of the appeal of Halloween is browsing all of the spooky things in the stores. When they start putting up displays it’s like waving chocolate in front of me. I’m drawn to all the colors and creepy-looking things.

6. It’s a pumpkin overload! Pumpkin bread, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin coffee, cookies that look like pumpkins… and the list goes on.

7. And speaking of pumpkins, pumpkin patches need to be on the list of places to visit. There’s a working farm in the town where I live. The schools bring classes to the farm. One of the best things is watching the kindergartners pick out their pumpkins in the field. Follow that up with hay rides, then a walk through the corn maze, and it’s a memory to relish for a lifetime.

8. Oh! And can’t forget pumpkin carving. I used to do this with my kindergarten class. I’d plan a day up, the parents would bring in a pumpkin, and I set up stations in the cafeteria. Then I’d divide the kids up into groups and assign them to a parent. Each child would get to help with the pumpkin in some way. We’d make a production out of it.

9. Then, of course, there’s the candy. My kids are grown now, so I don’t get to pick through the goodies anymore. *grin* But all is not lost! We still get trick-or-treaters. So now I wait for the knock on the door. I love seeing the costumes kids picked out.

10. Candy corn. Seriously, need I say more? People either love it or hate it… and I’m in the love it camp. I mean, when do you get to eat candy corn any other time of year? It’s one of the best things about Halloween. Yum!

Short and sweet, this book is playful and a good start to what I hope will lead to much, much more. Hottie shifters and some intrigue...

As some of my readers know, I’m a borderline diabetic.

Living a sugar-free life, especially on Halloween isn’t easy.

Sugar-free milk chocolate Hershey bars and mint patties are all good. But sometimes, we all need something else to hit the spot.

Pumpkin waffles are one of my favorite and easy desserts to make for my family during halloween.

Pumpkin Waffles Credit:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons canola oil
1 teaspoon molasses
1/4 cup canned pumpkin
1 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
2 tablespoons of sugar-free sweetener
1 1/2 cups sugar-free maple syrup

1. Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer's directions; spray lightly with vegetable cooking spray.

2. Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Set aside.

3. Combine oil, molasses, pumpkin and buttermilk in a small bowl; set aside.

3. Whisk together egg and sweetener until blended. Add buttermilk mixture, whisking until blended. Add to dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened.

4. Pour batter into a hot waffle iron and bake approximately 5 minutes. Serve with maple syrup.

This book was steamy with a paranormal flair. Enjoyed it immensely. Flawed characters, a betrayal of trust and a hot mm romance you can sink your teeth into.

I’ve got 99 problems but money ain’t one. Though a sister with cotton candy for brains, a spatula-wielding six-year-old niece with a British accent, and the mysterious businessman who left me that damn ticket are all currently vying for the top spot.
When I became the sole winner of a $270 million Megaball jackpot, thanks to a sexy stranger who left a lottery ticket instead of paying for his meal, my entire world flipped upside-down.
Now, with money-sucking vultures, douchebags by the dozens, and a horde of total hotties just waiting to get their mangy paws on my newfound fortune, I set out to locate the man who gifted me the winning ticket–to properly thank him.
However, when I finally find the cocky, self-absorbed business tycoon, Teague Goodman, I’m not sure whether I want to slap him… or ring his MEGABALLS.

He has a girlfriend? With my name? Please tell me I’m still asleep and this is just one of those strange, ridiculous dreams that makes no sense whatsoever. Though, I do hope that kiss in the kitchen was real… unless, of course, he does in fact have a girlfriend, and then I just want to punch him in the nutsack for being a cheating asshole.
“Oh, shit,” Teague hisses, as he runs into the back of me, seeing as how I’ve stopped dead in my tracks just before turning the corner to the front foyer. “What in the—”
“Teague!” Fiona yells, cutting him off. “Some twat named Finley who claims to be your girlfriend is here, and she doesn’t look anything like my bloody auntie!”
He grabs my arms and spins me around, panic painting his expression as he stares deeply into my eyes. “This isn’t what it looks like. I swear to you. I’ll tell you everything. Just let me get rid of her. Stay right here.”

A Passion for Pumpkins
By Lily Harlem

I’ve always loved Halloween. When I was young it was dressing up and going trick or treating with my brothers, coming home and spreading the loot on the table and deciding who’d had the most success. We were rarely allowed sweets, my mother obsessed with us avoiding tooth decay and fillings, but at Halloween we were allowed to gorge on the generosity of neighbours.

I live in a small village in the Wales, and when October 31st comes round the clocks have fallen back an hour and it’s dark by 6pm – the blackness is increased where I live because our rural area has no streetlamps. It’s also cold in October, not snow-cold, but definitely icy, see-your-breath-in-the-air cold. I’m one of the neighbours on the lane who always makes an effort for the kids that come calling with their pumpkin shaped buckets and their wacky outfits.

I hang a large, brightly coloured witch on the tree at the end of the drive, set candles in jam jars to lead the way to the house, and ensure there are plastic bats, skeletons and cobwebs hanging around the porch. I even put on spooky music for the kids to listen to as I answer the door.

One of the things I always really enjoy making is the pumpkins - one to stand in the bay window of our cottage looking outwards and one for the kitchen table. I try and make them a little different each year and use the internet for inspiration.

Penny Roach gives some great idea for traditional pumpkins  which are the sort I put in the window for the kids to enjoy.

But inside the house, for Mr H and I to enjoy, there’s usually something a little  different and more sophisticated. For example I love this stocking pumpkin, it’s so sexy!

And Tinkerbell has always been my favourite Disney character, not sure if I could manage this one but I’m planning on having a go.

One year I created this vase pumpkin, sadly I didn’t get a photograph of mine, but filled with orange and yellow flowers it made a great centrepiece and lasted quite a while.

And for a bit of glamour, this has to go the list for a try in the future…

But surely, the best one of all – the wine cooler pumpkin!

Happy Halloween, I hope you all have lots of treats and enjoy any tricks you find yourself getting up to ;-)

Lily x
